State-U Scores, Series Notes and Coaches Records in Rivalry

When South Dakota State University (7-3, 5-2, MVFC) hosts South Dakota (1-9, 0-7 MVFC) on Saturday at Coughlin-Alumni Stadium in Brookings at 2 p.m., it will be a renewal of a football rivalry that dates back to 1889 when the two schools met each other on the gridiron as part of a field day event in Sioux Falls. This game will be the 106th meeting between the schools with South Dakota holding a 50-48-7 advantage. SDSU has won the last three games between the schools, including the last meeting, a 22-11 decision in 2003 at the DakotaDome. The last Coyotes' win was a 41-28 win at Coughlin-Alumni Stadium in 2000. In terms of streaks, the Coyotes won eight in a row from 1935-43 while SDSU won six in a row 1990-92 when the two teams met twice a year. South Dakota scored 73 points in 1912 (73-7) win while SDSU had 61 points in 1963 (61-0 win). USD won 10 of the first 12 games between the schools, with two ties keeping USD from winning 13 in a row.
